Hey all,

I've just sieved and prepared a bag of seed compost (a well known brand), and from a 25litre bag I sieved out 1.75Kg of gravel. Photo attached. 

Now, I thought that seemed to be an awful lot, especially from seed & cutting compost?

Am I expecting too much? What do you all think?

I think thats poor and you should complain.

Really I think we shouldn't have to even sieve something that is sold as seed compost but I know I wouldn't win that one.

Looks like they bagged the rubbish off the screens and threw the compost away!
I agree  complain about it, one or two stones are to be expected but not that amount.

oh, definitely complain about that to wherever you purchased it FROM and show them the photo evidence (take the bag with the gravel if you can)  I'm hopeful that the person who sold it would understand and WILL offer a refund/purchase of another bag FOC    If not, threaten them with "Watchdog" ....

Is that gravel, or just compost that has got compacted?  I often have to break up the lumps in all the brands of MPC I have used ... the bits my arthritic hands can't do! I use to earth up the spuds-in-bags.

I put my new compost through an Alco shredder and it comes out super soft and fluffy.

The bag in question would certainly have taken the edge off the blades.

Defo gravel Kristen. I grated all the compacted bits of compost (and tree bark) through the sieve.

if that's just one errant bag i'd complain and get a replacement, if i found two bags like that from the same supplier i'd name and shame.

Sorry to hear that, in that case its complete-crapola  Take it back, complain, and name-and-shame too for good measure

That really is despicable. No compost should have anywhere near that much gravel. Even the compost itself is awful, so large and clumpy.
