Years ago one of our dogs used to lick his paws until they were sore. The vet advised that it was due to too rich a diet. He advised feeding him on 'Chappie' dog food which was the cheapest available at that time. I can't remember if it worked or not.

My little dog has been licking and nibbling at his toes since we've had the frost and snow...The bit's in between their pads are sensitive I think the ice makes them sore.
