Hello from a veggie growing virgin (so to speak!)
We moved to West Cork after years in the tropics and I have no experience of growing veggies in this climate. But we've built raised beds, started a compost heap and yesterday I planted my first onions.
A kind friend has given me some seeds - fortunately with instructions on the packets - but she also gave me a handful of broad beans, so I'll have to do some research about what to do with them.
I'm hoping you friendly, experienced folk will be able to offer advice as and when I need it and in return I'll regale you with my triumphs and disasters.

Hi there, and welcome to the forum
I was wondered where you lived in the tropics?
-
Hi Sunshineband
I was in Fiji. We did grow fruit and veg there, but it was so ridiculously easy I can't say I gained any experience. It was generally a case of sticking something in the ground, sitting back and watching it grow. :)

What a fantastic time you must have had! We do need to make a small effort to make sure we give everything the best chance to thrive, but we do manage to grow plenty alright! I'm sure you will too 😊😊

Welcome to the site :D
I think Ireland has tropical levels of rainfall  ;) :D but the temperatures might take some getting used to!

Ha ha - yes, the rainfall is comparable - the temperature definitely isn't!

Hello vagabond and welcome. I have been lucky enough to visit Fiji.... Loved it.

Thanks, Fairy Plotmother. Fiji is a beautiful country and I miss many aspects of it... but West Cork is very beautiful too, so I don't feel hard done by. :D
p.s. love your username!
