My dwarf root pear tree has blossomed well but i have only a few that have set. some seem to be ok only for the stem to turn black and the blossom/fruit drop off.
any ideas what this is ?

Not all the flowers get pollinated. If it's unlikely to be a pollination issue, could look at feeding and other problems, for example over-feeding can result in poor fruit set. Otherwise, could post a piccie, if you are worried about disease.

Is the whole branch black or just the stem holding the flower? If ithe stem went black, then it's possible there's frost damage. If the whole branch is black, then it's fireblight.

thanks for the replies,
it is just the stem of the blossom that goes black not the branch. it seems that there are a number of things it could be, the tree has only been in for a year (ive had it two) so maybee its just settling in.
this time next year i'll be a pear millionaire
