When to take the lid off the propagator?
« on: March 19, 2013, 07:40 »
OK I popped these little guys (Comfrey Roots) into loo rolls in a propagator on the 22nd of February and noticed the first (largest) one on Saturday 16th and the others this morning Monday 18th so it looks like they have taken about 23 days + ish to show.

Question is now, do I keep the propagator lid on until they all (or 9 out of 10) show, or for a week or more , then take the lid off.

How big do they need to be before I have to put them in the ground at the allotment?, or would I be better putting them into pots until I have managed to clear the area where these little bad boys are going to live permanently?

They don't need to be in the warm, inside, at all.

They would come up even if little bits of root were pushed into the soil, they are extremely hardy - so get them outside.

That's right. I bought some roots off ebay two years and just shoved them into the soil, 'twas autumn I think. I ignored them completely and had massive plants by the end of the 'summer'

Thanks - looks like was taking too much care then  ::)

More little heads popping up today - now to decide where to home them - And if it stops raining I may even be able to dig up that area ready for them - Shall I pot them until then or how long will they remain OK in the loo rolls?

Comfrey is nigh on unkillable. I'd just leave them where they are for the moment and save yourself the effort.
