We are shortly to become the proud custodians of 4 chooks, and whilst we were finishing off their bespoke accommodation last night we wondered about veterinary insurance... Now one of our cats was run over once and thanks to our pet insurance the £3,500, yes, £3,500 needed for her recovery was fully paid.
Whilst I don't necessarily expect a chicken to need £3.5k worth of veterinary care, I did wonder whether it was possible to obtain cover. I have done a couple of internet searches but apart from smallholding or farm insurance, both of which would be vastly over the top, I can't find anything at all. Any ideas anyone?

Its not practical to insure your chickens. They are so cheap to buy in the first place that its not worth doing it.
A farm insurance will cover you if you poison people with any eggs you sell but will not cover 'flopsy' to have life saving surgery or stress councilling.

Thanks Bodger, I wondered if that might be the case.

The sad fact is chickens are not widely viewed as pets (yet) but as many people will say the emotional attachment is still there. However, like bodger says, it's always time to move on.

It is a sad thing, but thye are not covered.
You can't even get them covered on other insurance you may have.
me thinks might be an idea to start it!
