« on: December 21, 2010, 13:26 »
Is it ok to feed a little tuna to chickens during their moult as it is high in protein or is it a complete no no

I can imagine they would love it! Perhaps not too much though, there might be a salt issue....

some people feed fish or fish flavoured cat food but I don't bother myself (tried feeding a chicken cat food once but the chicken wasn't interested in it at all  ::)).
Staffies are softer than you think.

if you do decide to feed tuna make sure it is in spring water though and not brine or oil.

the oil is bad for them and washing the tuna will not remove all of it so the spring water is the only one to use out of tinned tuna - you could of course buy fresh tuna and cook that yourself  ;)

My chickens love Tuna.  I tend to give them the tuna in spring water type rather than in brine or oil as I don't want to give them extra salt or fat - both of which are undesirable, too much fat damages their liver.
