Where to put a polytunnel
« on: July 01, 2014, 06:38 »
Having got the Polytunnel dismantled and in pieces on our plot we are now at a quandary as to where to put it and which way to face it.. Our plot is south facing so gets the sun all day. I know these tunnels get extremely hot in the summer so as we have a prevailing wind which 99% of the time seems to blow east west or west to East I was thinking of placing the polytunnel with doors facing east to west so that in the summer when ventilation is paramount the breeze/wind would run through the tunnel when the doors are open hence helping to cool it down BUT all the other tunnels on the site are facing North to south. Surely not everyone can be wrong so there must be a good reason for this. Can anyone give us some info on the best way to face a polytunnel and why please.

Sad really that I can't go and ask the polytunnel owners on our site as no one has given us any help whatsoever since we came here we have to fend for ourselves.

You need the sloping sides facing the prevailing winds, so that when they get to gale force they go over the slope rather than hitting the flat end full on.

Most gales are from a SW direction in this country so aligning the PT N-S would be a good compromise both for ventilation and wot Mum says.  ;)

(It would also avoid any of your unfriendly PT owners being handed the opportunity to mutter "she just HAS to be different, doesn't she?"  )
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

If you need advice at anytime when you are putting up the Tunnel, you can either ring First Tunnels or check out their instruction videos on their website they have the best customer service I have ever come across.
