Anyone knows what this is?
I notice they have green powdery stuff covered on all my 3 dwarf apple tress. Plus my braeburn specifically has a problem with its bark.
anyone knows what this is and what can I do to fix them?
They had most of the green stuff on all of them this year. I have to say that I have neglected them and they only bore 1 apple this year. :(
Also anyone recommends a good pesticide and a good fungal spray? can I use both the pesticide and the fungus spray both at the same time? I just thought might as well use both of them to cure them.

The top photo looks like canker not good news but i think the green is harmless algae.
Cannot help with the sprays.

Yes... green is algae and completely harmless -- you can wipe it off it bothers you.
Apple canker is more serious. It is caused by a fungus. Yorkie's RHS link will explain how to treat it :)

I have checked the link posted by Yorkie
unfortunately I cannot cut off the branch infected as the canker is on the main trunk.
I will have to give the fungal spray a try! many thanks

You'll need to keep that section well supported imho, as it is quite thin now and it might snap in high winds :unsure: ???

there is a support bandage you can wrap around the cancer brach ,
its impregnated with cancer treatment chemicals ,
think its from a seed company

There's someone who joined the forum in the last few weeks who would be able to give advice on this problem... I was led to believe she works with fruit trees.
All I need to do is remember who she is! :blink: ::)

Got her!! Mand from Cumbria who works on a private estate growin fruit (hopefully on trees! :lol:)

I am not a fruit tree expert but if that photo is the main trunk i would cut it off below the damage but above the graft to the rootstock and if new branches do not grow dig it out and plant a new one. It looks too far gone to salvage the whole tree as it is.

It does like you have canker, which is not good, the damage can be worst on weak growing trees, , you need to cut back to healthy growth as 8doubles has previously said. It is possible to gouge out infected patch, spray with bordeaux mixture or other copper fungicide after harvest but before leaf fall and improve vigour of tree by applying fert during growing season, improving drainage may also help, but looking at the pic if you gouge out infected area it looks like you actually have`nt much stem left for support.
Personally I would give it the chop :(

hi . i would agree with the copper based spray for the canker. as for the green on the trees this can be reduced by less shade/more sunlight. this will also help with a better yeild

Sounds good advice to me.... sad but probably for the best. You can always start again with a new tree - Autumn coming up so a good time to consider it. ;)

Update: I have sprayed Bayer disease control (fungicide) on it and is hoping for the best.
Otherwise it will get the chop!
the apple trees are my husbands anyway!
I hate apples so I dont mind chopping them :D

Better check with him first before ordering the chop!
