Hello all, I'm thinking of using shingle on top of slabs in the run.  What are your thoughts?

I started with pea shingle and most of it ended in the compost bin as the squished poop sticks to shingle. I swapped it for larger shingle and is better, some still ends up in the compost bin but not as much.

Both wash down well though and the chickens love scratching around in it and pebble dashing everything that gets in the way

I used that at my old house when I had the hens there.
If you have the time, I used to wash the gravel with a hose & a sieve.
The water I washed it with was kept in a large container & I used it to water my veg.

I've just been washing the shingle down with the hose and losing both gravel and "goodness"

I'll grab a large container on the way home and give your idea a go this weekend.

Thank you for your replies.  I do have cotswold stone in their 'play area' and that works well, I just give it a watering and a good rake.  I will look at shingle for their run but go for something bigger than shingle.
