Sweetcorn ideas?
« on: October 29, 2007, 19:14 »
Hello all
New forum member so please be gentle with me :-)

I grew sweetcorn for the first time this year - mini pop a minture version
It grew well, but didn't quite mature so didn't turn sweet in time. However I harvested it anyway and it is now drying in my kitchen and looking really nice.

What I'd appreciate advice on is what I can do with it.  Ideally I'd like to use it for culinary rather than decorative purposes, but can I if it didn't mature?

I was wondering whether I could use it as pop corn? or does it need to be fully matured for this?

Any suggestions or advice gratefully accepted

Many thanks!

Isn't mini pop a baby corn variety? I suspect it is. So I think it is not supposed to mature nicely and supposed to be used immature, row or steamed.

 :)

For poo-corn, you need a mature one. :)

Let's leave it since corn does have that effect on many.

Hi All

Despite being LittleHen I don't have chooks yet (it's part of my life master plan though!). I do have bees though so I'm on the road to the Good Life.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.  Mini pop is a mini variety but I had thought the individual corn kernals should ripen (although they stay small).  Mine didn't ripen, but they're drying out now, so I'm going to throw caution to the wind and try popping some in a few weeks - I'll let you know what happens!!

Nice to "meet" you all, looking forward to having a good old nose about the forum today
