Hi all,

Got lucky at the allotment today, one of the guys had donated some pallets that I was able to break down.  The wood I got from it is about 7ft long and probably 3inh by 2inch.

I plant to use the 15 or so lengths of wood  that I have to create posts to have wires on for soft fruit.  has saved me a fair bit of cash if I can use it.

One of the experienced guys suggested that I preserve or treat the wood and suggested putting a number of lengths in a bucket with preserve in the bucket.  he suggested that the wood would suck up the wood preserve for up to 3 feet of the wood, then I could flip them over and do the other three feet?

Any comments on this.

also what type of preserve should I use?

I have heard that tip before but cannot vouch for its effectiveness.

You will not be able to use creosote as that has been banned for some years now.  I'd avoid the fence stain type of products as they only last for a couple of years or more.  I'm sure there are more long-lasting products in the big sheds which would suit.  Just check that they don't have restrictions for use near edible crops.

Google CREOCOTE  it is the replacement for creosote. I got mine from Toolstation . It smells just like creosote and stains everything it touches.
