new allotment! got me going again.
« on: June 10, 2011, 22:53 »
pulled my socks up to visit my plot today.
I have loads of pics and one of them is disturbing. When I visited the plot I thought of a picnic area in the far end which will include a swing for our kids, a pond, bench and shed. Well in the middle of overgrown things I found a pond and rest I have to make.
This is the first image of plot and thats hell a lot of work!! couple of pics which shows broken glass frames. Carpets galore and I see visit to skip would be mandatory.

and I found this dead bird as well

Is this the plant I was looking for the past two years... please tell it is!!!! the plot has loads

somebody please tell me what this lovely berry is . massive shrubs!!

I think this is apple tree (unless somebody else tells otherwise). I need to get advice on to trim it down on height.

and What is this? some sort of plum????

made some inroads today.
.
Will keep updating.

One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

second pic should've been this. somewhere between me and the wooden shed is the pond underneath the overgrowth.

not sure about the 'plum' tree but the one you thought was an apple looks like a pear to me, with pears groing on it :)
The first plant you wanted to know about is comfrey and the pic underneath looks like blackcurrent.

You are so lucky to have all of those already established on the plot!

Good luck with tackling it; there's a lot of brambles in there, but slowly and steady will get you through it :)

The plum type one might be a damson but I'll yield the floor to others that will know better :)

Looks like a pear to me as well - leaves aren't apple leaves.

I thought the fruit was a gooseberry. They're a bit too large for black currants.

Looks like a blackcurrant to me - albeit a large one! Not hairy or spikey enough for a gooseberry.

Prakash - your photo of the "plum" is over-large and has sent your text & option buttons off screen. It's something only John & Auntie can fix.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Forgot to say - yes the fifth picture is Comfrey. If you've got loads of it, I dout it's Bocking 14. You'll have to watch it - it can take over!

How the tell the difference. it is just by the way of it growing?

and is it normal for a pear tree to grow that tall (around 25 feet probably non grafted variety)?
how to prune it?

are they plums?ple

I thought they were gooseberries untill I saw they are turning purplish (blackish?  :))

Re the Comfrey - I've assumed that as the plot had loads that it's seeded itself. Bocking 14 won't do this.

The "blackcurrants" - does the foliage smell of errrr - blackcurrants?

You can get red dessert gooseberries, that was my first thought!

Good luck prakash!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
