I was also looking for one, had a quick search on amazon but nothing came up, so will be interested to watch this thread as i could do with one too. :)

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

So far i've managed to find 'The Leek Book, Growing and Showing' by Geoffrey Swaddle,
and 'Growing and Showing Vegetables' by T. Fenton; the last one sadly out of print! >:(

You could get some good online articles on the National vegetable society website about all types of veg.
Visit my website and view my potato blog and videos.

Keep a look out for "How to Grow Giant Vegetables" by Bernard Lavery - a classic from 1995!!

Currently 2nd hand on Amazon, but a bit pricey...out of print.

Could also try this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Backyard-Giants-Passionate-Heartbreaking-Glorious/dp/1596912782/ref=pd_sim_b_2

Maybe more on the characters side than reference though...?
