Top Three Plants that you like to grow
« on: April 24, 2010, 20:35 »
What are your top three plants that you like to grow and why.

For me its

1 Spuds, I love the time when you dig them up its like discovering buried treasure , plus its a veg we use at least three times each week.

2. Onions. we use these every single week and they are so easy to grow, just plant the sets water when dry and watch them grow.

3. Brussels Sprouts. Over the past three years I have only has success in one year with sprouts, but they mean Christmas to me and a darn good time.

What about you?

Onions [all types, love having them in all winter and when they get so big that the oldies on the lottie come over to look you know you've cracked it]
French Beans [for the beans inside not the green beans]
Potatoes [that first furtle and first warm potato salad of the year]

For me it's :-

Potatoes.

For the same reasons as others have stated, the ones I grew last year made fantastic roast potatoes, the ones from the shops aren't firm enough, for me anyway.

Carrots.

My carrots don't taste any different to the shop bought ones, but I love just pulling them out washing/peeling and having them with the roast dinner an hour later.

Garlic,

We use it a lot, I've 135 of them growing now, I know cause I counted them yesterday  ::)

Mangetout - especially for the kids - they eat them raw like sweeties

Globe artichokes - dipped in melted butter, bliss.

Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

mine would be butternut squash, sweetcorn and runner beans, they are easy to grow and the supermarkets charge a small fortune for them, so not only do i save loads of money, they taste so much better as well
