I found out after an internet search, finishing up on ebay

Its a Murray..........there's several on ebay, and thats where this ones going

I bought it from a mate who dabbles in such stuff, wanting to use it as a yard tractor, but when I first took a ride on it, out on the road, in first gear it must have reached 10 mph!.................and it was impossible to go slow....... ie under 5mph

Further enquirys, and I learned it had been geared for mower racing,  this making it pretty useless for what I wanted  :( ..........and I can't be fussed with changing sprockets/chains etc ..........still, somebody will probably want it  :)

Murray riders of this type and also tractor type used be sold badged as Mountfield..thus painted red (silver at one time)...more recently they have been associated with Hayter in green.

With Mountfield they tended to be known by size of cut/engine hp....page255 has the smallest engined model M25/5...but for spares the actual model designation was important.

"Dori"
