saw this in my pals place up here in glasgow ,never though of it before myself just chucked it in the fridge or cooked n froze it ,she saves it for weeks on end by putting a freezer bag over the cut end and pushing a straw up inside the bag sucking the air out , the bag stix to the open end and prevents air from spoiling it . clever innit she keeps them for weeks and weeks like this with no rot setting in.the normal skin is fine chilled and the open end is sealed as it would be with a second skin :wink:  8)

I just put some cling film over the cut end, squeezing out all the air - it keeps quite happily like this for days without refrigeration.
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

If you put the cling film over the cut end when it's still fresh, the odd "sap" coming out of the squash seems to seal it up too.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.
