I've no idea but have you thought of contacting the British lawnmower museum?
British Lawnmower Museum

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'd put a few bob on it being an Atco - the designs of the older models were similar!

Just found this ID plate covered in paint on top of the chain cover. I wonder if anyone can date it from this?

Intriguing I'm sure it says light weight across the middle and very faint at the top Ransomes Sims and Jeffries,  jezza

It isn't identical to this one, but is very similar: https://www.vintagemowers.net/ransomes_sims.html
The owners of that website might be able to provide you with (ahem...) mower information.  :tongue2: ???
( I'll just get my coat ...)

Seriously though, I am guessing early 1950s, based on similar mowers found through online search.

Come on Jezza, that nameplate says 14" Mk 4 lightweight, the old lawnmower club have the parts book for it and say it uses a Villiers Midget engine,https://oldlawnmowerclub.co.uk/sites/default/files/partslists/13845H%20Ransomes%2014in%20Lightweight.pdf

The most interesting thing (to me at least) that I learned from this thread is that there is an old lawn mowers club!  It's a fine thing that there is a club our there for every interest.
