Maybe an odd one (smelly baking beans)
« on: July 18, 2020, 16:06 »
Well I havent used my ceramic baking beans for a while being off pastry and I've done a comfort quiche  the other week and notice said beads had an old fat smell thinking it would go once I used them again but it didn't,  I've soaked them no change any ideas on what I can do or should I just chuck them

Soak them in some hot water with a touch of bleach added, rinse well afterwards, of course.
Or maybe just leaving them uncovered/open to the air, would let the smell wear off..

Drop of bleach then hot soapy water, if you rinse them well and let them air dry I would imagine that would clear the smell.

A good one for anything you want to soak to clean or freshen, but don't want to add bleach to, is the fizzy tablets used to clean dentures.

I don't have dentures, but I always have a tube of these around  :)

I was just about to write the same.  Including the bit about "all me own teef"!

Well it is reassuring to know they work,  for the day when my teef spend the night in a glass instead of in my mouth

Another thought - would bicarb work?  Maybe with vinegar?
On the beans, of course.  Not teef - permanent or otherwise!  :D
