Can I eat Cannellini

Morning chaps, can the green pods of Cannellini beans be eaten, I tried a few (they look like small runner beans at the moment) and they were a little tough and not very tasty) anyone else tried them ? - I planted them for their white inner beans so will happily leave them to 'ripen'.
