Thanks a lot for replying, Yorkie.
I want't to plant some Chinese cabbage (I have in pots) as soon as I can lift the potatoes.

I've heard quite good things about Bosch Rotak mowers over the years.

Hi Anton

I've usually heard that 2 weeks is the right period to leave it after removing the foliage, so I'd stick to that.

I'm not sure about the contamination query in your final para, sorry.
I'm a great believer in the 'trowel length' measure of space!

My main concern is that we are not getting away from cool wet weather. Don't misunderstand we need rain but the tender tomatoes have just about had enough. It is very unusual for us to get so much cool wet weather
at this time in the summer but if we get past the next week or so without too much rain there is just a chance that we may get some nice tomatoes to store for the winter but it is certainly the worst weather we have had in summer in the 10 years we have been here but locals are saying they cannot remember such poor weather ?

Would it be worth pruning her branches to a good leaf joint to allow her to put her roots out & concentrate on root growth ?

Trying to assemble a piggy dinner - the pork has been sitting in the fridge since I slow cooked it, I've just not felt like eating it.  I did some mash earlier today and the pan is on for some veg, everything feels like such hard work though, I have that man flu feeling.

Glad  the fridge is sorted Snow - just in time for the produce to start rolling in too  ;)

Cheers Lardy, itís been a tad of a struggle jiggling veg in a cool box with ice packs, tried not to pick too much at one time as I hadnít really got freezer space. Thatís the job for tomorrow, sort out the freezer in the garage & then I can fill the new one with what belongs in there, which will free up space for stashing the surplus vegetables
