Title: Can you grow all veg in a green house
Post by: patoncastle on March 05, 2014, 22:44
Hello fellow Allotmenters, I am expending from my allotment to all using some garden. I have a ready made concrete base 12ft by 8ft im going to use for raised beds but wonder if I could help my growing by putting a green house (with raised beds in) on part of this base.

I grow all sorts of veg, but things that will be going in my raised beds would be like, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, onions, radish, lettuce, beetroot. Are the things you just should grow in greenhouses because of the temperatures.

Your advice much appreciated.

i have a poly tunnel, but principles are the same. definitely tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers benefit from the heat. you do have to keep any eye on the temperatures in mid summer as it can get very hot very quickly and make most veg wilt.

i found that they are great for growing things early and late in the season. all of the veg you mentioned would grow a lot faster and sooner in the season than outside. not so sure i'd bother with onions, but new potatoes will be able to be planted earlier and give an earlier crop.
