we grew galia melons for the 1st time,they are the size of a tennis
ball.when we cut 1 open they smelt like a cucumber put tasted of watermelon.

any ideas what went wrong ,they were in the back of greenhouse apple cucumbers were at the front could this have anything to do with it

think it may just have been the type of summer we had - not enough warmth and sunshine this year.

or

it may not have been completely ripe.  did you wait till the melon had dropped off the plant to harvest it? this is usually the way to tell, also if you sniff them, when they're ripe you get an unmistakable waft of melon which then starts filling the greenhouse.

better luck next year - i didn't get any melons this year :oops:

I completely agree with milkman, they will grow and ripen better next year, also could just leave them in the greenhouse, maybe. :wink:

thanks     milkman and gobs ,

we had to remove the melons as the plant was just about dead ,so they were still green .

we pollinated by hand after reading a post on it ,so quite poss we done this to late

ah well better luck next year
