ARE CHIPS REALLY BAD FOR YOU
« on: October 02, 2009, 20:01 »
Or are they bad for you if you add them to an already poor diet. :(
Is a once a week serving of chips okay?

I don't think it's the chips, its the fat they are usually cooked in.

I live by the motto 'a little bit of what you fancy does you good',eating them once a week isn't going to do you any harm.

Can't beat eggs,real chips,and beans..oh and loads of buttered bread :)

Although I've not lost any weight recently, I did lose over 2 stone between Feb and Julyish, even though we still like to have our home made chips with fish and peas every Friday!

I just make sure they are drained really well before plating up, and we don't like the frozen oven chips you can buy.

Like Mike said, a little of what you fancy does you good sometimes!!!!    :D

Yes please
We always have proper home made chips when we have chips that it.  Usually Fridays  just like Grannie Annie, fish chips and peas, and I fry in lard but drain well on kichen roll.  I cant see they are any worse than roast pots or jackets with butter on.

Oh and fat chips are less fattening, because of the overall area covered by the fat.  2 thin chips would have a bigger area than one chunky chip!!!

I do remember some of my old Weightwatchers teachings!!!

We have absolutely no chips at home at all......  :( not any more..... :(

OH says: "Very fattening...."

Apparently she knows.... not that I need worry that much... although 30" waist has gone up to 32" over the years.

My parents (89 and 93) on the other hand eat chips once a week... just a few home fried.. so they can't be that bad... Can they?

Leave the skins on and they are nearly good for you  I just think having a rule about NEVER eating something is sad, enjoy as a treat occasionally to look forward to, just not every night!

Our "no chips at home" agreement results in me eating chips every other time we eat out!
Just as well that it not that often!  ;)

I've found the answer to that, Learner:  next time you have a check-up, you tell the OH that you haven't got enough cholesterol, and the doctor's worried      :D

I have recently cut out ready prepared  meals and cut back on shop ready meals and cakes etc. I think with this in mind real homemade chips once in awhile cant be all that bad and  I really hate oven chips!! :) Thanks for your good advice  ;)
