Big Mama sqwawks a bit when she lays - this isn't the same.  For any Little Britain fans, (I'm not) she sounds like "Anne" the psychiatric patient.  Not explaining it very well, but it sounded like a proper crow to me!  Not "eh, eh, eh eeeeeeeh!", but "eh-uhhhhh!".

Well, "she" has been at it again - was crowing again this afternoon, this time she made the builders at the neighbours house drop   their tools in fright.

I've called the chap I bought her from and, I'm gutted to say, "She" is going back on Wednesday.  I'm really upset as "she" is my favourite chook - so funny with oodles of personality.

But I was told quite firmly by the council "NO COCKERALS".

What a shame babypoogle - you'll miss her/him. Its a pity they can't be trained to keep quiet.

Today is the day I lose my friend.  I feel like the target of the RSPCA ads, Puppies Are For Life, Not Just For Christmas.  I feel I'm abandoning my pet.

I couldn't bear to watch Gracie foraging around the garden so I left the chooks in their coop til it was time to go.  Without further peramble I whipped him from his bed and into a box.
I was rewarded with a smattering of poop (I must have disturbed him while the turtle was popping its head out) that stunk out the car.

The chap was most chuffed at the progical return of, it appears, a fine specimen of a Blue Marans Bantam cockerel.  He intends to breed from him forthwith.

As he had no layers to offer in return, I came away empty handed. My garden looks empty.  I'm now considering ex-battery instead.

May go some way in salving my conscience.

P.S I still stink of chicken poop.
