hip operation done
« on: May 26, 2018, 06:55 »
Well it finally happened had my op on Wednesday i came out last night,i had a total hip revision.
What can i say about hospital staff 1 word AMAZING  they are so short staffed and not enough hours in the day.
While i was there patients were showered ready to go to theatre only to have there op cancelled saying they have  run out of time devastating  for those who get sent home.
But now its up to me to recover do exercises and get better.
I was surprised to come out after 2 days but back in my own bed.Lillileaf

Great that you've had it done and are now back home in your own bed. Keep at it with those exercises!

Great news, glad you are home.  I have had 2 new hips, and the only advice I can offer is to religiously do the exercises.   Sometimes, you will feel very tired and sore, but don't give in.  Long term you will be rewarded.
I am so pleased for you - take care, regards  Mrs Bouquet

I have started the exercises in hospital, also you can do them while you are in bed it has to be a balance of exercises and rest, i have done some walking around the house more exercises this afternoon and again tonight.
The gardening i did before i went in helped a lot ,the  physio said its a big benefit for people not to be lazy before there op it takes much longer to recover.
Thank you everyone for your positive encouragement, i di have PMA positive mental attitude it goes along way.thank you

One thing I've always wondered about, as I'm heading in that direction slowly but surely..... is - after surgery, how do you make sure you don't turn on your side at night?
I'm a side sleeper, so will habitually try to roll onto my side once I'm asleep...
'Tis a puzzle

Lilyleaf - I'm over the moon for you!  There's nothing like being back home and in your own bed. You know all about the exercises you have to do. I remember the one where you hold on to a chair back, bend your knee, then lift your foot up behind you which I rather naughtily called "kicking the cat".  :( MOS - I too sleep on my side but after my op I stayed on my back because to turn over was quite painful for me because I had a more intrusive sort of op than Lily's and the wound was held together with metal staples.  As that was a few years ago it's possible the less intrusive hip op is becoming more widely available, but when you've had it done you feel like a new person!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

The exercises are the hardest bit now,as i had a revision, the old hip replacement out then every thing has to be cleaned and flushed out,i think it was over double the time as of the 1st time hip,my problem is low blood pressure so they monitor you every 15 mins after your op.
Well its all done and you know i was only in hospital for 3 days the garden looks like a jungle,my husband has done a wonderful job of watering and looking after the fruit and veg.
BIG thanks to all the good wishes i have had from you fellow veg growers.Lillileaf

Have a good day Lillileaf  :)  I'm sure it is all a bit sore and teeth gritting just now, but as you say, you will reap the rewards.  Enjoy your garden and having the time for a nice slow explore  :)
