Not more problems!!
« on: July 21, 2011, 17:09 »
Thanks for your sympathies for Lulu.
I am now totally paranoid  ::) and concerned about some poo! Examining the coop I notice large piles of poo which is just undigested food (grass/corn) and there is a LOT of wet on the paper under the rungs. It doesn't smell. I THINK the poo is from my young Speckledy as she always sleeps in that place. She is 26 weeks now and not laying yet but I'm not expecting it for a while (my last one was 32 weeks).
I've looked on the poo chart Auntie and there's nothing similar. Any ideas? She SEEMS to do normal poos during the day although it's difficult to be sure!!!
No bad external parasites and they were wormed in May. Eating and drinkiing and behaving normally. The other hens' poos are fine.

How about if you post a picture??

Mine do normal poos during the day, but first thing in the morning you'd better watch out and stand well back!  They leap out of the coop and each chicken leaves the biggest pile of poo imaginable !

Mine were like Kegs.  First thing in the morning when you let them out they would do the biggest pile of poo and the smell could knock you sideways if you were standing down wind.

I'm not worried about the quantity (my others are like yours...what steaming piles of c**p!!!)....it's the fact that this one young lady is pooing undigested food with alot of fluid overnight. Having just lost Lulu I'm just making sure.

undigested food doesn't sound right, keep a close eye on her and her poohs for the next couple of days.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I agree, undigested food doesn't sound right.  Does she have access to both hard grit and oystershell?

It is the hard grit which is needed for grinding food up in the gizzard :)

Could you get her off the grass/corn for a day or two and just feed pellets?
I've found that no treats/greens now and again seems to benefit them and settle their digestion if they're a bit off.

She's a young Speckledy and free ranges for about 8 hours pm so has access to plenty of stones. Pellets and pellet stew are available all day. I read that this breed NEEDS to free range and she is the only one that will eat fallen fruit. She seems very healthy.
Just a bit concerned. Maybe she's eating too much!
I shall watch like a hawk tomorrow and investigate her daytime poo. (No wonder my mates think I'm crackers!!! ::) :D)
