I want a green manure that will over winter, help break down the clay and nourish the plants once it is dug in in early spring. Anyone got any recomendations please??

Winter tares or alfalfa - both nitrogen fiixers and will overwinter, releasing nitrogen to the following year's crops when hoed off and rotted down.
