what breeds to go for??
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:57 »
unfortunately all our hens were killed by a fox several months ago so we burnt all our houses and runs. I said I woud never get any more because it upset me so much.  Now I want some more!!! Can anyone advise me on which breeds to get please. The last ones all used to dig and scratch dirt in my garden. Ive been told you can get chickens dont need to do this.  Really dont want my borders dug up now theyre looking nice again. Many thanks

I have read that chickens with feathered feet don't scratch so much but my Brahmas scratch around like the rest of them. A bantam breed with feathered feet may do a lot less damage though? Good luck with your new hens.

My sabelpoots scratch very little so would suggest these cuties if you are prepared to accept very little eggs  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.
