Allotment advice

Hi All
Appricate some advice please,just joined the forum

Just aquired my half allotment, and have bit of weeding to do, I would like to ,make it a organic allotment, could anyone advise me what makes a organic allotment ,also my blog i started , shows what i have done so far, well not much due to dry weather i been talking to the weeds a lot lol.

Have a look at the soil association and the HDRA sites (now Garden Organic I think.)
What's organic for commercial sites is not the same as your allotment or garden. Assuming the person who had your plot before wasn't into chemical warfare - just use organic fertiliser and so on and you can call yourself organic. There's loads of advice on companion planting and planting for beneficial insects as well which you could look at.
I tell the people at work that of course it's organic - it's hard to get inorganic veg, so eat up all those courgettes I keep giving you!

Hi Peduk gardening organically is essentially all about taking good care of the soil - take care of the soil and it will take care of your plants for you.

The HDRA / Garden Organic website is a useful source of information and fact sheets, but I would also suggest you try and borrow a few books - anything by Bob Flowerdew or Monty Don as they are both advocates of organic gardening, I've also found HDRA Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening very useful.

One of the first tasks you can do to get things underway is to set up and start filling your compost bin!
