Mini Greenhouse - Net Cover?
« on: September 08, 2013, 15:21 »
I have one of those 4-tier mini greenhouses that I use with the cover in Spring to get seedlings going, and then use through the warmer weather without a cover just as shelves to hold trays of various modules and pots. As I've been gorwing brassicas from seed in modules at home before transferring to the allotment, I have wrapped some netting around the shelves to stop the cabbage whites getting to the tiny - though they still seem to get through, so I have been rubbing off the eggs every day or two. So my question is whether anyone knows whether it is possible to get net covers (with zips) just like the clear plastic cover, to use in the summer/autumn to keep insects off seedlings?  I have seen a fleece cover at the garden centre, but that said it was to be used under the clear cover to give extra insulation rather than on its own.

Google it, you'll find that they are available, only hope they fit your greenhouse.

Chuck some scaffolders' debris netting over it?  Often can be blagged from building sites as they don't usually re-use it, otherwise cheap-as-chips, but you'll have to buy a roll - although that will cover the row once planted out too (use water pipe for hoops, or canes with balls/bottles on the top, or similar)

Found a cover on ebay - arrived today and looks good, though with the weather now I might go straight back to the  PVC cover.

I was shocked to see how much e-bayers charge for these mini-greenhouses on ebay let alone the covers after I picked 3 up from ASDA for £5 Each in their sale off gardening stuff
