Lysine for cats
« on: June 14, 2012, 22:34 »
I've seen this recommended for cats who have a stuffy nose and watery eyes.
It's non prescription but wondered if anybody else had used this before I get some for Lucy.

and yes, she has been to the vets and finished her anti -bis  :)
(apparently the Lysine aids their immune system to prevent recurrences   )

Not heard of it before Mum but glad she is ok.  :)

Could it be an allergy if the antibiotics haven't worked?

The antibis have worked but it's something that recurs regularly, so wondered if the supplements do help.

How old is Lucy Mum?  Has she always suffered from being a kitten?

I re-homed her 4 years ago, and she's had it a couple/3  times each year since, not always bad enough for the vet but still noticeable.

Our cat has never suffered any of those symptoms but I do know they can suffer allergies.  Is it usually the same time of the year?

Omega 3 is supposed to be a good supplement for cats and should help the immune system.

Found this which may have some useful info.

You may want to get her checked for Feline Herpes Virus.  This causes periodic outbreaks of snotty noses and gungy eyes.

If it is FHV, then lysine is a very good supplement, and it was recommended to me by my vet for my two rescue kits, who had raging FHV infections when I got them at 4 weeks old.
