Keep an eye on your moggies, just had to remove 3 tics of my cat!!!!
-
Eeurgh-hate ticks :tongue2:
-
Got a load to remove from a couple of hoggies. The O Tom tick hooks seem to do the best job. Nasty creatures. >:(
Rob
-
I used a method a chap at work told me about, you rotate your finger anticlockwise around the tic (it doesnt matter if you touch them) and for some reason they dont seem to like it and release their hold and drop away. Was very sceptical when he told me, but he was right :)

I like the sound of that ::) I'll give it a go next time :)
-
Blimey ! sounds intriguing. Just taken a couple of dozen of the nymphs (3mm) off. Nasty business. :(

Rob
We got a pack with 2 different sizes of that O Tom tick tool to use on the dogs. Its a great tool!
-
"I used a method a chap at work told me about, you rotate your finger anticlockwise around the tic"
Is that like bathwater ? Clockwise in Australia ?
-
Thats what you do with the tick tool, it just saves you having to touch the horrid thing :tongue2: not sure the rotational direction matters though ??? but then I run a mile from that kind of operation and OH does the deed (while I hold the torch) ::).
-
The biggest mistake you can make with a tick is fiddling, just get hold and get the job done :)
Spot 'em, grab 'em, twist & pull, jobs a good un ;)
Sarah :)
-
Don't squeeze the abdomen but hold them as close to the skin as possible with some tweezers, a gentle pull and they will let go.
-
But it's fun to squeeze them once they're out Auntie, they go pop  :)
-
oh... nasty girl
-
:D Thats me ;) :tongue2:
-
Ever tried Puffed Ticks, Vember ?
-
Can't say I have.
Had a few smoking/flaming ones, they get to a good size before going bang :)
Once got 33 out of someone who'd been camping, amazing the places they can hide
-
That's what happens when you spend too much time in the long grass :D :D
-
You people are sick :D
Says the woman who wants to keep a tortoise in a cat box!
-
Try keeping it in the bath* : I'm sure Plod wouldn't get out of that :D
( *Empty, of course ::) )
-
No, he wouldn't get out but he'd poo in there. Ugh.
I think perhaps I'm just going to have to post him back to MIL in Australia...
-

you can't do that, it's too warm in Aussie
-
You could try buying him a very large hamster-wheel :D
-
No way, he'd just see the wheel as another way to torment me. Imagine it - squeak, squeak, squeak, as the wheel goes round. I'd go demented!
Hmmm.
Perhaps I am getting a little paranoid about this tortoise...
-
It would appear so . . . unless it's the beginning of a great love. 8)
-
Aw, if I were only closer, I'd take him from you for the duration...............except that, as I recall from childhood, the family dog viewed my tortoises as walking bones
I doubt that the current gang would view them otherwise :(

"Oh mum thankyou, this is taking the raw food diet to a whole new level" :tongue2: Yep, I can see the fun of a tortoise to a dog ::)
-
Oh Rubellite, you're only in Essex. I can be there in, oh, about an hour?
-
On cats I must be a bit PMTish today as was brought to tears by this:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1224123/The-60-kittens-just-days-live---wants-home-credit-crunch.html
Anyone for a drive to the south coast? :(
-
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :( you not got pmt! What can we do!???? i dont want all those kittens to die !? :( :( how cruel is this world :(
now i very tearful too :(
Debbie

spotted that story too. Hopefuly a lot of people heading that way tomorrow

I think a lot of donations have been made which should help them for a short period. If it was up here you'd be finding kittens falling out of cupboards and in sock draws!
Its a sad fact that charities really are struggling, cats protection (especially after putting all the money in Icelandic banks ::) ) are not meeting costs. Our branch is really struggling as we just dont have enough money or foster carers to look after the little ones. I can only take one at a time (although last summer I took over Phil's spare room in an emergency and had 13 kittens in there - all little tiny smelly squirts, some needing bottle feeding!) but really wish I had the space for more as I get a call on a weekly basis asking for help with another cat or kitten. I'm sure its the same for dog rescue and other small animals at the moment as well :(
I really hope that the publicity helps to get them rehomed and donations to help keep the charity running so they can help more animals in the future.
-
Oh Caralou, I read it too - I want them all!
We could do a relay - you drive down from Leeds to me and I'll drive down from Bucks to Devon...
BTW, have you read the comments from the lovely caring people (NOT!) underneath the story in the link? Whilst the point about people neutering/spaying their cats is a valid one, it's not the cats' fault!
-
I ignore those sort of comments now, you always get people like that and thankfully they are outnumbered. It seems a lot of donations are being made and homes being found for them. I suspect there will be alot more stories like that in the coming months from animal shelters :(
-
oh dear Lord, one of them looks like Carrie :( i'd never turned away an animal in need, but i think my dad might have something to say if i came home with 60 kittens ::)
-
I know, the little one in the kitty line up is just like her :( Where could we put them Rom...? You clean out the stables and me and AmandaH will relay them to you :tongue2:
-
okey dokey ::)
where do i put the horses?
think of the fun Archie would have with 60 cats to chase, he'd be in heaven :D
-
Who's Archie?
-
this is Archie, chief cat and chicken chaser :D

Does make me wonder about changing my scedule for getting a new kitten (or two) but as Oliver is currently in hospital with urinary obstruction due to his FLUTD probably better wait till this crisis is over. Especially as it looks like the poor little lad is going to need surgery.
-
:( Poor Oliver :(
Sending get well hugs (even though he runs away from me ::)) for him :)
Sarah x
-
He runs away from pretty much everyone except me and anyone who is allergic to cats to whom he is instantly attracted to!
Poor lad is being poked and prodded and stuck with needles. Kind of hoping that they just do the op asap so that his chances of recurrence are less. Be worried to leave him when I go on holiday as when obstructed he needs to get straight to a vets. All a bit stressful.
-
get well soon Oliver
can't believe i've just sent a message to a cat ::)
-
Thanks Rom. I'm hoping I can go and visit him tomorrow before surgery on Mon.
-
Poor little man :( Does he forgive you quickly when he gets home or do you get the cold shoulder for a few days? Stress would just make it really bad for him, and you. Is it a neighbour or petsitter when you go on hols? He can always have a week with Aunty Cara, but that would probably terrify him as 7 other cats to contend with! ::)
We're all having a bad time for sick pets at the moment :( I do hope the op clears up the problems for him tho x
-
Oh Rubellite, you're only in Essex. I can be there in, oh, about an hour?
 You really want to feed MIL's baby to my dogs???
-
When we got Sammi a few weeks ago, we had only just lost Grolsch, poor old thing. I was devastated as he had been such a big part of my life, to make things sadder, it was one of those situations we all dread, the last visit to the vet. :( :(
Then, after a G&T too many I ended up agreeing to a kitten from Caralou (still dont quite know how it that happened! )
Well to cut a short story shorter, Sammi is gorgeous! She tried desperately to be loved -all over hubby - he didn't know anything about the kitten until practically at Caras' front door! Now they are best friends! :D
She is tiny, dont think she will get much bigger, but so very very happy. I know now it was the right thing to do :)
-
Oliver seems to forgive me pretty much instantly. I think he is just so glad to be home safe and sound. He was so glad to see me when I visited him at the vets last time it broke my heart having to leave him there.
I have a reliable pet sitter but still worry as she's not here all the time. Might ask my Mum who he is more comfortable around.
This is him within about 3 mins of getting home the last time.

Oliver looks so scumfy on his bed Kate..I do hope he's ok 8) Send him a big Snippy cuddle please. He's not unlike snip, he's scared of his own shadow, he won't go anywhere near anyone apart from me and hubby
TMG Archie is the short haired version of Poo..he chases the cats too, in fact he chases anything not human that moves ::) I suspect he'll do the same when I get my chooks ... ??? They're terriers though, thats what they do...got to love 'em though.. :D
-
Ollie is really funny with that sheepskin. Half the time it's his favourite comfy place to sleep, the other half he stalks it, pounces and tries to savage it!
-
Poor Ollie :( he looks like he could be related to Moggett the sock monster. She hates everyone except me, and I get attacked if I misjudge her mood, too.
I hope he feels better soon.
When my bestest ever girl, Rosie (JRT), was in the critical care unit, it broke my heart. I think I cried constantly for the 4 or 5 days that she was in there. Visiting was hell, and I didn't bring her home at the end of it all :( I have to say that probably counted as one of the worst times of my life).
I know that the circumstances are different with Ollie, and you'll be bringing him home, but when you visit and then go home, it's awful when they watch you go, isn't it?
-
When Thor was in last week I decided not to go visit him if he needed to stay another night as he is fine with the nurses and in the pen until he sees me then he gets hysterical to come home - when he was hospitalised 6 months ago he worked himself up so badly he was sick with it :( Thankfully after the first night this time I picked him up. I asked had he been crying/wailing and the nurse said he'd been ever so good and had lots of cuddles and no wailing. He heard my voice in the waiting room and was off wailing immediately ::)
I hope Ollie is home with you soon Kate, he does look a happy boy on his blanket
-

Actually dont tell Cara- just poured a large one....  :D
-
Got a lovely little ginger boy 12 weeks old here Foxy...... :tongue2:
-
Well best stop drinking or turn off the computer as feeling really blue with no cats in the house. Still waiting to hear tomorrow morning what will be happening with Oliver and have to go back to work. Boo Hiss.
-
Big hugs from here xxx I really hope this can be fixed with him as he must be in so much discomfort the poor little man :(
-
Trying to look on the bright side that he is in the best place for him and I am getting a lot more revision done without him here to "help". Oddly that's not cheering me up all that much!
-
At least you spotted it and he is in the right place. Hope he makes a good recovery, and good luck with your revision :) :)
-

Don't say things like that... I'm not listening LA LA LA LA......
-
I'm being ostrich-like...............
-
Well Ollie had his op today and apparently it went well. Get to find out tomorrow when I can bring him home.
Have to say I now seem to know more about cat urology than any normal person should!
-
Glad that the op went well..... I hope he is home with you soon.
My previous puss Tom used to suffer with crystal blockages every now and then so I know how miserable it can make them. He was always glad to get home though.
Hugs to you both :)

Aaaaahh, no.... not a ginger kitten!
Must say no... must say no!
(still working on hubby - told him Cara's got a ginger kitten and that we're not having it but I'll take a grown up cat! He didn't say anything - but at least it wasn't no!... I think we're nearly there ;))
-
Cool! It's a war of attrition Snappy but I bet you will wear him down in the end!
-
The war is won.... there will be a ginger puss in our house! (Hubby just doesn't know it yet!)
-
You mean you've still not got a cat Snappy ? :D :D
(http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz3/todecontres/petitbinks.jpg)
-
Phew, lifts head out of sand......Snappy's having the ginger puss :tongue2:
-
What a relief ! :D :D :D
Now. What colour's the 2nd one going to be ?
-
Nah Rube, she's having an adult ginger, the little ginger man want to live with you :tongue2:
-
No No No!!!!! :tongue2:
I am not having another kitten
I've been there, done that and replaced the leather 3 piece!!!
Here's my 2 monsters when they were sweet and innocent ;)
They are 2 years old now and happy to just sleep, eat and mosey around outside.
I am quite willing to have an older, more sensible cat though... I'm sure there is one out there somewhere :nowink:
-
(http://img1.photographersdirect.com/img/13894/wm/pd419107.jpg)
-
Don't think I'll be showing that piccy to hubby thanks Tode!!!
Not the sedate puss tat I had in mind ::)
-
Maybe you're right ::) Try pushing that off the settee :D :D
-
And who's gonna tell it it can't sleep on the bed either!
-
Don't forget to say "please", that's all ::)
-
Rube, you've gone very quiet again!
I assume you are deep in conversation with Cara discussing adoption arrangements ;)
Go on Rube.. As Delboy would say... you know it makes sense!
-
Ah, no, 3 cats, 5 dogs, 18 chickens (8 of them re-homed) and 6 ducks is probably enough at the moment
We've had an extra dog this last 10 days and it's really tipped the balance.
He is one of Ruby's pups and Dulcie's brother but he's not been over for a while and it's taken the whole 10 days to get them all settled, as he hasn't met Bruce and Bertie, the pups, before. We love Jack, dearly, but I'm not used to scrapping dogs anymore. We like to live in harmony ;)
-
But, I haven't ruled out another puss in the future ::) Never had a Ginger Tom before............had a tortie with half a ginger head, she was sweet, used to wear the skin off your arm by licking you
-
Somehow I can't imagine 3 cats, 5 dogs, 18 chickens (8 of them re-homed) and 6 ducks and the word harmony being in the same sentence  :D but I am very jealous of the chooks and ducks! (Mustn't say that too loud or Kate and Sarah will start on me again! ;))
-
Awww, it's very kind of you to take a few chickens when you have this ginger boy Snappy :tongue2:
-
Now you'll have hubby running scared Cara!!!
You'll have to get me some pics of the ginger mogs that need homes so I can casually waft them under hubbys nose!
It'll need to be able to get on with my 2 mogs who are brother and sister and just over 2 years old and my 2 girls of 8 & 4. :)
-
Help (please).... Kitten needed x2 (probably).
I'm told Caralou might know when is the best time to look out for kittens for sale?
I've searched locally without success. :(
OH would love a kitten as we lost the last of our two 14 yr old (sister) tabbies in the summer and, up till now, mean old me has resisted the idea of another.... (How the furniture and carpets suffered! But... she-who-knows-best is still keen on the idea of a kitten around the place... and quietly I am too).

Hey, I've popped a reply in the other post for you - feel free to pm me if you need more help :D
