What to do about worms!
« on: October 16, 2013, 21:45 »
Hello all,

Not been on for a while hope everyone is well this last 6 months I've been so busy with work I haven't spent the time with the chicks like I used to! I think they might have worms! Can this be treated and will it get the girls back on track? I need quick help and advice!

Cheers

Rich

Hi Rich and welcome back.

You are best treating them with flubenvet either the powder added to their pellets or you can get the pellets that already have it added.  Marriages do the pellets as well as some farm suppliers do their own feed with it added (our local Farmway does it and they are now part of the Mole Valley Farmers group).  One week of treatment should make a big difference.  If they have a bad worm burden you may have to re-treat them after a few weeks.  Do check them for lice and check their coop for red mites so that they will be comfortable on the long winter nights.   ;)

I would also recommend you applying Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly (cheap makes are fine) to their legs, every other day for a couple of weeks.  It should kill any scaly leg mites present and have their legs in great condition for the winter.
