strawberry runners
« on: November 25, 2013, 22:49 »
I intend to move my strawberry patch for next season - they were in baths this season- as yet I haven't cut the runners from the main plant, each plant has only a few runners coming off them as I nipped out the early season ones.
Should I separate them now or will they keep until spring?
What are the pros and cons off keeping them on the mother plant?

Thanks

If you're not ready to move them just leave them where they are.

The new plants need to have grown some leaves and roots before separating and moving, but if you just leave them to it the connecting runners will eventually die off anyway, usually leaving the new plants in all the wrong places as far as your plans are concerned!  ::)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

I have inherited a large number of strawberry plants on my new plot, they need a good weed between though! Not sure if I should leave them in situ, or would they appreciate a move to a fresh patch of soil, and  if they are moved when would be the best time? Thanks
