Hi there, wonder if anyone can offer some advice please.
I've noticed that two of my ex-batts have developed quite a big dark hard brown scab quite close to their vents (in exactly same place on each of them). I'm trying to find out what it is so I can treat it appropriately.
Could it be fowl pox?? I've got treatments for mites and worms so I'll try these first to rule out those causes.
The hens are still very lively and active, eating lots, crops are fine, combs are bright and clean and they are still laying an egg each a day (although the shells are getting quite thin - think could be because of their age - I've had them 8 months and they obviously had a very tough time before coming to me). They are fed on a mix of layers mash, pellets, corn and some greens (cabbage, spinach etc) daily.

Hi Rachel.  Welcome to the forums.

Could be lice, or pecking damage.  It doesn't sound like fowl pox.

Thanks - it certainly doesn't look anything like the pics of fowl pox you've posted. I'll de-mite and keep an eye out for the pecker!  :shock:
