planting spring crops
« on: April 20, 2012, 13:56 »
Hello All,

Given the currently soggy and cold weather, would it be better to wait a little before sowing crops such as lettuce, beetroot, carrots? I don't have a greenhouse but want to put them in a raised bed. These are the crops I've had least success with so far (i'm on year 4). Thanks for your tips and advice.

I am not sure where you are, but beetroot carrots and lettuce should be fine.  My first carrots and beetroot outside were sowed a couple of weeks ago.  You might like to start your lettuce off with a little sprinkle in a pot indoors until its germinated then get it outside.  Just gets it going and you don'tneed too many.

Thanks Robster forgot to say I'm in London. My window ledges are 100% spoken for though!
I'll put in some beetroot and see what happens.
