I need some advice/ thoughts on summer fruiting raspberries. I bought 9 canes of Glen ample back end of last year and although they were in a pot for a while they have been in the ground since January. However out of the 9 only 3 have any growth on them. They are all in the ground quite firmly. I dont want to start chopping them ( they are the same height as when I bought them approx 2 ft) but I'm presuming they may have died??. They dont have a brittle appearance and I am aware that I won't get any fruit in the first year but I was at least expecting foliage!!

I got some new glen ample canes in the autumn and they’ve now all produced some top growth and new shoots are coming up from the base of the cane. I would have thought you’d have seen something by now to be honest

I'm further north and mine, while still alive, are not doing much.
To put climatic conditions into context we've actually had it milder but much than the rest of you from keeping an eye on the weather and weather thread. Warmer, no snow or frost for months now. Our beans and peas have been out since the end of March and haven't needed covered. But not much rain either.

Thats interesting. To be honest we hadn't had an awful lot lately either until the last 48hours. It hasn't exactly hammered it down more a heavy drizzle which has been great for the veg. My BB whilst growing and have been hand watered are a bit on the short side.
I'll leave the raspberries for now - cant do anything else with the space and see what happens. If not more Glen ample at the end of the year or more autumn fruiters. They seem to be less bother!
