Ways of reducing humidity in a greenhouse??
« on: August 27, 2007, 08:12 »
Does anyone know any good tips for reducing greenhouse humidity??  Mine's normally around 90-100% and want it around 50-60%.  Think it's because my gh is below ground level maybe and it's the damp coming up through the gaps in the paving slabs.  Have no electricity so de-humidifier is no good.  Was thinking of putting a sheet of plastic accross the floor to stop the damp rising, thought that might help, or is there any type of substance or material that absorbs loads of moisture that I could just leave in the gh to do the job???

                      Cheers.

I've got three vents in it cut out of the perspex also got an automatic window opener.  I've heard somewhere that parrifin heaters also reduce humidity while producing more c02, is there any truth in this??

                          Cheers.

paraffin heaters greatly increase humidity

If your GH is adequately ventilated then the humidity inside will closely follow the humidity outside.

Have you crammed it full of plants? They themselves give off quite a bit of moisture?

Have found my stuff was far less humid, and happier too after I shifted half the toms out.

What about Calor gas heaters then?  Do you think they would also increase humidity aswell?

Yes.  Water is a by-product of combustion of hydrocarbons
