This is "Music" garlic, (apologies to those who have seen it before).

Planted late in March last year, harvested just 4 months later in July. 4-5 cracking cloves per bulb, so I think you needn't worry about it getting that cold in order to clove.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

That looks great DD.  :tongue2: Do you find it stores much better than elephant garlic (& if so, where did you get it from)?

It came from the Really Garlicky company.

I grew Elephant "Garlic" once. Complete waste of time, in my opinion. It's not true garlic, it's related to the leek and, for me, has very little taste. But it's a matter of your palate.

Have had a quick trawl (found your one when planting the above DD) and apart from me in various threads saying "I've read about putting them in the fridge" this is a few others I've found :

Ah, that's why I couldn't find it. Was described as 'Really Garlicky Scottish Garlic for Planting'. Will add it to my list for next year as they don't seem to have any in.
Thank you DD. Makes me so much more aware of how things are popular because they are more commercially viable as opposed to whether they are enjoyable to eat.  :tongue2:

Peeps, you are overcomplicating the issue.

Just chuck it in before cold spells are likely. End of.

Sorry Gobs.  Was just looking for a better option than the elephant garlic, which is very expensive for propagation without the necessary benefit of good flavour and storage... you haves to expect this of me from time to time...I was an engineer...

If we go out today will take a detour and go past the Garlic Farm.  I'll let you know what they're doing.  I could walk there but we have to go to the dump today.

This seems to be one of those questions that doesn't have one definitive answer - I've seen "professional grower" advice ranging from "should be planted before the first frosts" through to "need soil temperature of 10C or less for at least a month".

Big difference!

I broke several of "the rules" last year and planted supermarket garlic around the end of February and got a good crop (I'll be planting some of the saved cloves this year to avoid repeating the risk of introducing diseases though.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
