Plant ID Help Needed
« on: October 01, 2015, 18:04 »
Hi all,

I've just moved into a new house and really could do with some help identifying some of the plants that the previous owners have left behind. My previous gardens have focussed almost 100% on fruit and veg therefore I have almost zero knowledge of the non-edible forms of gardening......!

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

Thanks for all of your plant ID help so far - I've now uncovered a few others, one of which at least I think is a weed  :tongue2:

Once again your help identifying these would be much appreciated.

1 is an oriental poppy and 3 is an aster.  4 is familiar, but can't think of its name at the moment.  I'll repost if inspiratation strikes later on  :)

2 looks like a weed to me as well.

Lightbulb moment  :)  4 is agastache.

Norfolkgrey is right about the weeds.  Sorry, I was ignoring those and looking at what I saw as the main plant in the pictures.  2 might be a garden plant, but again, my brain refuses to supply me with a name at the moment ::)

Isn't 2 a violet, classed by many as a weed

My first thought was violet, but then the leaves seemed wrong somehow   I've got the wild ones in my garden and they do self seed around, but they don't have the long trailing stems of the plant in the picture

Is #2 an Ajuga?

I don't think the leaves are right for that either.  Ajuga doesn't have that heart shape to the leaves.

Having looked at the picture again, I'm leaning towards Viola labradorica, but I have yet to convince myself
