Moles!
« on: April 21, 2013, 20:00 »
Have just got some seeds in, I have some pesky moles pushing up under the mange tout and parsnip seeds! >:(
Any good tips for how I can get rid of them or at least encourage them away from the planting area would be welcomed.
Thanks.

I have the same problem, and would also love some advice.
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

I use a sonic mole scarer.

It worked well for me last year.

Do you plant in the ground or in raised beds?

I have had huge problems with moles in the past and found the only way to avoid them is to grow my vegetables in raised beds, with chicken netting attached to the bottom. This allows roots to grow through, but the moles can't get through and mess the beds up.

If you grow in the ground, my neighbour has used windmills, but I found they didn't work that well for me.

I use a sonic mole scarer.

What do you do if you have ordinary moles, rather than sonic moles?
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.
