It did a treat today - preparing beds, digging out compost, threatening the neighbours...
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

 I got a pseudo-mattock at Lidl this past Thursday. Got to try it out today. It works pretty well for £2.50. It's one like the "lightweight adzalas" on the get digging site... it's got a V-shaped fork on oneside and a mattock-type bit on the other. Seems to crack open those hard clumps of clay pretty well... can't help but feel a bit like a prisoner breaking stones, though  :? Hoping for more rain this week!

Makes the husband a bit nervous when I'm using it near him... he keeps seeing the pointy fork end coming up near him tho i don't lift it *that* high to do harm...
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

Me and my mattock, walking down the avenue...

Have you got  mattock that you really love, one that you feel so groovy with..
(apologies to Donovan)

Mattock or spade? that is the question

Whosoever can remove the mattock from the stone shall be king of the lotty

Is it a bird? no
Is it a plane? no
It's mattock man!
