Whitewash greenhouse
« on: March 19, 2009, 22:11 »
First day of real sunshine and some of my seedlings have been scorched.

Noticed a lot of  greenhouses are whitewashed inside.

I was assuming its watered down emulsion.

Can anyone advise what they use to whitewash the glass.
NOT ARF !

I can't think of the trade name offhand, but you can get something from the local garden centre that is mixed with water and painted on. It's inert and won't harm the soil as it's washed off.
Emulsion can be a right Beggar to get off.... ;)

A lot of people just drape debris netting over their greenhouse on our site. There was a lot of scaffolding round our site last summer, so everyone has loads of it.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Coolglass or something similar. We bought a job lot a couple of years back when wilko were selling off their summer stock. :)

I would look but it's down the greenhouse and I'm enjoying a sit. ::)

Wilkos is where mine was purchased. Not sure about it though it was a pain to clean, well it had been left for about 8 or more years. If you don't have a Wilko I could send you a packet, reckon I won't use it but would like to keep one just in case (not sure how many packets are in the box). PM me if you would like me to find the box.

I have been told that if you water down some white water based emulsion and paint the outside of the greenhouse, that it will have worn off by the end of the summer. Not sure if this is correct but sounds like it might work.
Anyone tried this ?

its called coolglass and its made by a company called bayer. washes off with soap and water, though do test spots if using it on polycarbonate as it can stain
you can also get special netting for shading your greenhouse (thicker than normal netting and thus more expensive)
