storing red cabbage

would you lift and store? Or leave in the ground? I live in relatively mild west London

I would leave in the ground and lift them as you need them, cabbages don't store very well in my experience

No problem Ian, i too spent a lot of my childhood in Whitley Bay and have some great memories of playing on the beaches.
