Transplanting Iris ?
« on: April 26, 2009, 16:32 »
I have a small bunch of dwarf Iris that suddenly need to be dug up , leaves trimmed off  and replanted .

Is this a good or bad time to do it? ???

I presume you mean a dwarf Iris with a rhizome and not the one with a bulb?
If so it is normally divided after flowering but could be moved now. You could take the opportunity to divide it and cut off the newer pieces, discarding the older rhizomes.
They should be replanted so the roots are buried but the rhizomes are on the surface.
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

Think they are the bulb variety.
Really just wondering if the digging up will be very detrimental.

Would like to keep them as they appear early in the year and I always forget about them.

Have to find a new location and see what happens.

If you dig them up in a big clump with plenty of soil around the bulbs they should be fine, especially if you water them in well  :)

Oh Bum! >:( >:(
So far I have managed everything wrong.
First had to dig them up.  :tongue2:
Then had to trim leaves.
Now I have cleaned the soil off to store them until I decide where they are to go. ???

What else can go wrong :( :( :(

No one say "Spray them with glyphosate."
Thats why I had to dig them up and trim them in the first place.

You could stick 'em in a pot for now, as this is not really the time of year to dry them off... might help
