Charolotte  :D :D :D

I liked Pentland Javlin, but on a taste test which included neighbours they all went for Charlotte

Edit: try a few different ones and see which you prefer, I would say it is a little subjective n taste etc.

Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

There are quite a number of good salad potatoes.  I tried Jazzy this year and was very impressed.  I also like Sharpe's Express and Nicola.

been growing charlotte for several years now on the allotments  can't beat it for a salad potato both for taste and size  this variety grows well on our ground

I think its trial and error for you to grow several salad potato varieties to see which ones grow best on your ground for both taste and size

I grow Charlottes not just because of the taste but if some aren't harvested they grow quite big so can be used for baked pots etc.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

So did I and wasn't  ::) Too many teeny tiny tubers - hardly worth digging up, despite being well-watered.

Back to Lady Christl for me, for the earliest and if I do decide to plant a later variety it will be Charlotte :)

That's a shame MoS. I watered them well too, but Jazzy were by far my best crop this year.  No slug damage and tasted great.  Wonder why our experience is so different?

Nicola for me.  Have grown Lady C and Charlotte but prefer Nicola.  Anya (pink fir variety) are nice two.  Both are great keepers I've they store well, as we ate our last Nicola's at the turn of this year.

Was going to grow Nicola but charts show low blight resistance and after getting hit twice this year, I reluctantly had to change my plan...

I have grown Charlotte and Lady Christl in past years but this year decided to try Nicola. I really liked them as new potatoes but I have just finished harvesting them and am not so keen on them as they age (although they have less scab than late-harvested Charlottes). I plan to go back to my old favourites.

I've grown Pentland Javelin and Charlotte but have had problems when boiling them. I don't peel them, but the skins burst and I end up with a lot of watery mush. I will try steaming them but that seems to take forever.
However, Ratte performs well and tastes very good as a salad spud, and also fried after being boiled. Only problem is they have been small this year. I think I will try International Kidney as a first early this year, followed by Winston - although Jazzy seems to work well round here.
