Strimmer Line.
« on: May 30, 2016, 08:53 »
Hi all,

There are now several sections of line other than round, has anybody had experience of these?  what are the pitfalls?  Do they give a better cut?

I would be interested to hear your comments.

Mike.

I would presume the sharp corners are supposed to give a better cut.
we do the impossible daily, miracles take a little longer.

I don't have an answer to your questions but I'll bet they charge a lot more for the line with a different profile. Maybe that is reason enough for them to produce it.

A local chum does strimming etc for his own business, and has some square line on his big petrol strimmer, which he swears by.

It is about 2 to 3 mm square, and is quite hard too. Apparently, it cuts much better than conventional line, and he buys it by the mile!

I would think that 3mm square line will be tougher than 3mm round section  because there is more of it ! :)

When I bought the new Honda - see my post here above - it had round line but that wore away very quickly.  I changed to my existing stock of red, square line and that was much better.  The blade is very much better for the job I am doing though.

............ fishing line around...................
I don't know what they make strimmer line with but maybe fluorocarbon would be good.
I borrowed a strimmer many years ago when they first arrived, and the line wore out in about 3 minutes so I have never bothered with it since.

hi i have used different quality line over the past 39 years and have eventually gone with Oregon 3mm nylium starline  star shaped with aluminium  particles its hard wareing and doesnot need the strimmer running flat out to make an excellent close cut i find i get forty five minutes cutting time on a tank of fuel where as the soft stuff thst frays quick is thirty five minutes  i have just cut  bracken with a new line called Nylsaw its 3mm with saw teath on 2 sides bracken doesnt stand a chance if its cut down wards theres just a fine layer on the ground did 150 yardslong by 2 yards wide in 15 minutes and never put more line out strmmers are 2.9 and 3.9 horse power 2 strokes    jezza
