I would leave it alone.  They spread by seed if you have the right soil.  They grow in damp meadows in the wild.

You can buy packs of bulbs in the autumn, if you want to speed up the process

Yes i want some bulbs i wont tempt fate and they look better in clumps.

I have some that probably came from a nearby neighbour and I love them. They seem to have increased in number so they must have seeded.

Be aware that lily beetles also love these, so keep an eye out for bright red beetles and remove them. Thye have already begun to appear round here!

I live in the north east so they probably wont like the cold.

The cold doesn't stop lily beetles 
The RHS says

by 2009 it had been found in all English counties. The beetle was reported for the first time from Scotland and Northern Ireland in 2002 where it is becoming widespread.

So you do need to watch for them.

Mum i was joking its allways cold here its the northeast  its all we know , with all this global warming going on its only getting colder and wetter if the beetles come up here they will need to pack a vest .
