Barlotti (borlotti) Beans
« on: September 27, 2007, 23:33 »
Hi all,

I really enjoy barlotti beans fresh from the pod and although in the past I've dried them for winter and they're OK'ish, I wonder if I can freeze them fresh, soft and luscious like, say, broad beans?  Would I need to blanch them do you think?

You *should give them a go Celtic Eagle - not only do they taste good fresh but you can dry them and also freeze them fresh says Muntjac, and the coloured pods look nice on the lottie at this time of year.  I believe they are an Italian favourite.

I agree with Shirl, they are disappointing as dried, good to look at though...

I've grown some of these but they were late to get going due to flooded plot and cold weather. Pods are only just swelling. I picked one large pod earlier to see what they were like inside but the beans were really tiny. I wonder how much longer I can leave em before it gets too frosty?

Are you asking when it's going to get too frosty? Who knows :)  :)

But you won't get any dried beans this year, I would bet on that

Yo could use them for greens or leave a couple of weeks(with a bit of luck ) for shelling
